Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a PCU/Acute Leukemia & Hematology unit position requiring current chemotherapy certification and inpatient hematology-oncology experience.

Details

• Work in the Acute Leukemia and Hematology unit (PCU) of a cancer hospital
• Primarily care for newly diagnosed adult and geriatric acute leukemia patients
• High volume of blood product administration, IV antibiotics, and electrolyte management
• Patient ratio goal of 1:4, with potential for 1:5
• 12-hour rotating shifts covering days and nights (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30)
• Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs
• Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
• Uses Epic for computerized charting

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
• Minimum 2 years overall nursing experience required
• Minimum 1 year inpatient hematology-oncology experience required, current within the last 12 months
• Acute care experience must be current and in the specialty being applied for
• Prior travel nursing experience required from an inpatient unit setting
• BLS, ACLS, and ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy certification required
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy/infusions, port access and management, central line and PICC line care, and blood product administration
• Experience with chemotherapy administration, monitoring, and body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
• Knowledge of oncologic emergencies including tumor lysis syndrome and sepsis
• Experience caring for patients with leukemia/blood dyscrasias and lymphoma required; multiple myeloma experience preferred
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor; charge RN acceptable as second reference; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

• Strong focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
• Interpret dysrhythmias and utilize telemetry monitoring and Rapid Response Teams as needed
• Manage feeding tubes, IV therapy, phlebotomy, and peripheral/central/PICC line care
• Recognize and communicate abnormal lab values
• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Former employees eligible for travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees are ineligible to be hired as travelers at this health system
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
• RTO must be submitted with application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements promptly upon contract signing due to strict compliance deadlines
