Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Downers Grove, IL, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ER experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

• 12-hour night shifts (6p–6a), 36 hours per week
• Work in a 28-bed Emergency Department with 11 hallway beds and 4 triage rooms at a Level 1 Trauma Center with Magnet Designation, Primary Stroke Center, Comprehensive Cardiac Center, and Geriatric Accredited ED status
• High-volume department averaging 120 patient visits per day
• Patient population is predominantly 65+ with multiple comorbidities, with a heavy psych and addiction population; case mix includes sepsis, DKA, MI, stroke, IVDA, ETOH, and ortho-trauma of all types
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3–6 based on acuity
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Philips bedside monitors with nurse's station monitoring
• Every 3rd weekend rotation required
• No on-call or floating requirements

Requirements

• Active Illinois RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC; CPI/MOAB preferred
• Minimum 2 years of ER experience required; Level 1 Trauma experience preferred but not required
• Trauma certification required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent management, critical care drip management, TPA administration, and conscious sedation
• Proficiency in basic nursing skills including NGT placement, IV starts, Foley placement, and wound care
• Experience assisting with splinting and stroke care
• Strong assessment, communication, and patient experience skills
• At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration
• Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

• 50% of holidays during the contract period are required
• RTO requests must be approved by the manager
• Staff use self-scheduling; travelers select from available shifts after the schedule is balanced
• ER Techs provide support with POC testing, EKG, phlebotomy, splinting, and procedure setup; charge nurse is actively involved in bedside care and serves as clinical support
• RT and hospitalist coverage available 24/7
• Orientation consists of a NEO session plus 1 shift of unit orientation
