Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a Level II trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring 2+ years of experience, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications on a 12-hour night shift schedule.
Details
- Acute care stepdown/PCU unit in a Level II trauma hospital setting
- 35-bed unit serving adult and geriatric patients with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetic, and continuous EEG monitoring diagnoses
- Patient ratio of 1:4-5 RN to patient, supported by nurse aides/patient care techs at a 1:10 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, beta-blockers, and seizure medications
- Charting via Epic EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- Every other weekend required
- Every third holiday required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating to medical floors, ICU, or rehab may be required
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU/stepdown experience in an acute care setting required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) — candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include titrating and managing drips, continuous EEG monitoring support, and caring for a complex adult and geriatric patient population
- A charge nurse is present on each shift
- Orientation consists of onboarding during the first week followed by 1–2 days of floor-specific orientation
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on the Friday of orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass; failure to pass may result to contract termination
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
- RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- This is a fast-paced unit — candidates who thrive here tend to demonstrate a positive attitude, strong communication, critical thinking, and collaborative teamwork
- Candidates who were directly employed (FT, PT, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible for this position
