Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at a Level IV Trauma Center in Sheboygan, WI, requiring a minimum of 1 year of Med/Surg experience and WI or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Works in a 24-bed Med/Surg unit within a 101-bed Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
- Patient population includes oncology, post-surgical (bowel, GU, CBI), cellulitis, GI bleeds, CHF, overflow COVID/TB, and outpatient antibiotic/fluid infusions
- Pediatric patients (>1 yr) are present on the floor but travelers will not be assigned to their care
- Patient ratios: 1:4–5 days, 1:4–6 evenings, 1:6 overnight
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation required (every other weekend, or less frequently depending on staffing)
- Holiday coverage required on a rotating basis
- Floating to other Med/Surg units and ED boarding is required; travelers are first to float
- Charting is done in Epic (preferred); medication dispensing via Pyxis; IV pump is Alaris
- On-call is not required but candidates may express interest to management
Requirements
- Active WI RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency with chest tubes, IV skills, port/central line management, and working knowledge of CPAP, BiPAP, and Airvo
- Stable trach management preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- COVID vaccination required
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, dated within the last year
- Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit support includes CNAs, a charge nurse with a partial patient assignment, 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 hospitalist coverage, RRT/Code Blue team, and centralized telemetry monitoring with a tele tech
- Phlebotomy is available; RNs are responsible for draws from central lines
- IV/VAT team is available on Mondays and Thursdays
- OT, PT, and ST are available on weekdays with limited coverage on weekends
- Orientation is 1–2 days based on candidate comfort level
- Any color scrubs are acceptable; professional appearance is required
- Free parking is available on site
- First-time travelers are considered on a case-by-case basis
- Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months before being eligible
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate; no radius restrictions apply
