Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Medical Surgical position in a correctional facility setting, requiring at least 1 year of experience and MOAB certification with night shift availability.
Details
- Work setting is a large detention center with a capacity of approximately 1,900 inmates and an average daily population of around 1,640
- Correctional nursing environment serving a diverse inmate patient population across multiple housing areas
- Charting is performed using Cerner
- Schedule is nights, 4x12-hour shifts (18:00–06:30)
- Every other weekend required
- Block scheduling available
- 13-week contract with a minimum commitment of 10 weeks for new contracts and extensions
- Free on-site parking available
Requirements
- Active NM or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted)
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and MOAB (MOAB training provided by facility if not already held)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Proficiency in phlebotomy and IV insertion required
- Experience with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, and isolation precautions required
- Must be able to pass a facility background check
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Provide routine and emergency healthcare to incarcerated patients, including health assessments, triage, and referrals to providers in dentistry, detoxification, and mental health
- Conduct detox rounds per established protocol and assess newly admitted patients
- MOAB certification must be obtained during the first week if not already held; failure to pass may result in contract cancellation
- COVID vaccination is optional; proof of vaccination series or a signed declination must be uploaded
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply; prior correctional nursing experience is preferred
- RTO exceeding 7 days requires approval; all scheduling requests should be submitted at the time of application
- Travelers who have worked 4 consecutive assignments or reached the one-year mark are required to take a 6-month break before returning
