Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at a Magnet-designated Level I Trauma Center in Roanoke, VA, requiring Epic proficiency and charge experience.
Details
- Work in an adult acute care Med/Surg unit at a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center (adult and pediatric) affiliated with multiple medical schools and universities
- Patient population includes elective back surgeries, trauma, prostate cancer, gallbladder conditions, and cellulitis
- Patient ratio is 1:6
- Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday required per 13-week contract
- Floating within skillset is required
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience preferred
- Charge nurse experience required
- Proficiency in Med/Surg care including experience with Rapid Response and Code team protocols
- Skilled in peripheral line care and management, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, and isolation precautions
- Epic EMR experience required
- PDF copies of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
- Two professional references required for consideration

- RN may be required to serve in a charge nurse role and precept other staff
- This is a 703-bed, private not-for-profit general acute care teaching hospital and the region's only Level I Trauma Center
- Hospital holds Magnet designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, recognized for over 20 years
