Description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with a minimum of 2 years of NICU and pediatric critical care experience for a 13-week night shift contract at a major academic medical center in North Carolina.

  • NICU setting at a large academic teaching hospital
  • Patient population includes neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults
  • Work settings include NICU, Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatrics, and the Emergency Department
  • Experience with high frequency jet ventilators and oscillating ventilators is required for this position
  • ECMO, bronchoscopy, ARDS, and pediatric cardiac anomaly care are part of the clinical scope
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
  • 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule block
  • No on-call requirement
  • Epic EMR required
  • Orientations are held bi-weekly
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active NC RRT license or Compact license required — must be in hand at time of consideration (note: NC licensure typically takes 2–4 weeks to obtain); license required if applicable
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in NICU, pediatric critical care, pediatrics, and ED — Level IV NICU experience is a hard stop requirement
  • Documented PICU experience required
  • Required certifications (must be in hand): ACLS, BLS, NRP, PALS, CRT; RRT preferred
  • Experience with high frequency jet ventilators and oscillating ventilators required
  • Experience with pediatric cardiac anomalies required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Trauma Level I or II experience preferred
  • First-time travelers are eligible for this position
  • 1 supervisory reference from within the past year required for consideration
  • Full SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include ventilator management (BiPAP, CPAP, high frequency jet and oscillating ventilators), airway management, nebulizer therapy, medication administration, ABG interpretation, and ECMO protocol-driven care
  • Airway management duties include intubation assist, extubation, tracheostomy care, nasal/oral airway placement and suctioning, and sputum specimen collection
  • Medication administration includes a broad range of inhaled and respiratory medications including Nitric Oxide (iNO), Inhaled Flolan, Racemic Epinephrine, Mucomyst, Albuterol, and others
  • Neonatal/pediatric procedures include assisting in high-risk deliveries, CPAP/Nasal CPAP/BiPAP, ECMO, umbilical blood gases, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Flu vaccine is required from 10/31 through 3/31 with no exemptions accepted
  • Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility are considered local and eligible at a reduced rate
  • Candidates who were previously permanent employees of the Duke University Health System must disclose this in their employment history, and must not have been a permanent employee there within the past 6 months
  • RTO requests must be disclosed upfront and are limited to 5–7 days maximum for the contract duration
