Description
American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with a minimum of 2 years of NICU and pediatric critical care experience, including Level IV NICU and high-frequency ventilator experience, for a NICU day shift position at a large academic teaching hospital in North Carolina.

- NICU setting at a large academic teaching hospital in North Carolina
- Patient population includes neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults
- Experience working across NICU, Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatrics, and Emergency Department settings
- Specialized procedures include ECMO, bronchoscopy, high-frequency jet ventilation, high-frequency oscillation, CPAP/BiPAP, nasal CPAP, HFNC, oscillating ventilator management, umbilical blood gases, and assisting in high-risk deliveries
- Airway management responsibilities include intubation assist, extubation, tracheostomy care, nasal and oral airway placement, and suctioning
- Medication administration includes Nitric Oxide (iNO), Inhaled Flolan, racemic epinephrine, Mucomyst, Albuterol, Xopenex, and a broad range of inhaled and nebulized therapies
- Epic EMR — experience required
- Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Six weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule block
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- NC RRT license (compact or NC state license) must be in hand at time of consideration
- Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NRP, PALS, CRT; RRT preferred — all certs must be in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of experience in NICU, pediatric critical care, and pediatrics, including ED experience
- Level IV NICU experience is a hard stop requirement
- Documented PICU experience required
- Experience with high-frequency jet ventilators and oscillating ventilators required
- Experience with pediatric cardiac anomalies required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Trauma Level I or II experience preferred
- 1 supervisory reference from within the past year required for consideration
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
- License required if applicable
- Flu vaccine required between October 31 and March 31 — no exemptions accepted
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are eligible to apply for this position
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility may be considered at a different rate
- Orientations are held bi-weekly
- Candidates who were previously permanent employees of the health system must not have held permanent employment there within the past 6 months
- RTO requests must be submitted at time of consideration, with a maximum of 5–7 days allowed
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and manage ventilator weaning as part of daily responsibilities
- Protocol-driven ECMO experience is applicable to this role
