Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg travel assignment at a Magnet-designated Level I Trauma Center, requiring at least 5 years of experience and a valid MO or compact RN license.
Details
- Night shift position working 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Patient-to-nurse ratios of 1:4–6
- Unit receives patients from the ED, OR, and ICU
- Patient population includes geriatric trauma (55+), MVA/MVC victims, falls, abuse/violence cases, TBI, ortho trauma, acute care surgery (appendicitis, gallbladder, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns), and total joint replacements
- Specialized procedures include blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, IV starts, insulin management, PCA, peripheral nerve block catheters, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, oral suctioning, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
- Special equipment includes lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators
- Charting via Epic (experience required)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
- No on-call requirements
- 13-week contract with option to work 36 or 48 hours per week
- Short-term acute care hospital with 1,266 staffed beds — Magnet-designated, teaching hospital, and Level I Trauma Center
Requirements
- Active MO state RN license required at time of consideration; compact license accepted if applicable
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
- Level I Trauma Center experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management required — must pass a Relias EKG exam
- Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with Med/Surg skills including spinal cord injuries, TBI, ortho trauma, chest tubes, and respiratory support modalities required
- Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Navy blue scrubs required
- No RTO during the first week of orientation; no more than 7 days of RTO permitted per 13-week contract
- Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Travelers may remain for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required
- Parking passes are available for purchase at various lots and garages on or near campus; costs and availability vary by location
