Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Neuro/Med-Surg Night Shift position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and current ACLS and BLS certifications.

Details

  • Neuro-focused Medical-Surgical unit in a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes general medicine with a focus on neurological diagnoses such as CVA
  • Patient ratio of 1:6
  • Night shift schedule, 18:45–07:15 (3x12-hour shifts)
  • 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
  • Contract length of 13–26 weeks
  • EMR: Epic (experience preferred); Medication dispensing via Pyxis; Communication via SBAR
  • Manager-created scheduling
  • Floating required; travelers float first within or near the facility
  • Every other weekend required (approximately 5–6 weekend shifts per contract)
  • No on-call responsibilities indicated

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, neurological/psychiatric care, CVA management, IV therapy, and peripheral line care
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start

Additional Information

  • This is a neuro-focused unit; neuro experience is preferred but not required
  • Charge nurse experience or willingness to learn the charge nurse role is preferred
  • Unit orientation is 24 hours; weekly orientation schedule
  • Pre-start online modules required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles); must be completed annually
  • Navy blue scrubs required; not provided by the facility
  • Must pass an EKG test prior to start
  • Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays; holiday RTO is not permitted
  • No RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment; RTO cannot be requested after signing
  • Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
  • Candidates who previously worked at this health system as permanent, PRN, or EP staff must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
  • Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but will be placed at a lower pay rate
  • Travel pairs are permitted provided each clinician is on a different unit and has their own transportation
