Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced, high-volume Labor & Delivery position requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and prior exposure to settings with 300+ births per month.
Details
- High-acuity Labor & Delivery unit with an obstetrical triage area; higher volume and acuity than typically expected in comparable settings
- Cares for obstetrical patients 16 weeks and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum needs; also manages high-risk patients under 16 weeks on the high-risk maternity unit
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births, rescue cervical cerclage, antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration
- Patient ratio of 2:1 with an average of 20 births per 24-hour period, 30–40 admissions, and approximately 40 visits per day across 20 rooms
- Double labor assignments occur daily on this unit
- EMR: Epic (experience required); also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15
- Every other weekend required, with a minimum of 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Floating required as needed to the Special Maternity Care high-risk OB unit
- No on-call requirement
- 13- to 26-week contract lengths accepted
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license (license or certs pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
- Current certifications: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, and NRP
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required; 3 years preferred
- Prior experience in a large, high-volume L&D setting with 300+ births per month is required
- Proficiency in circulating for OR/C-section, sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care
- Circulate-to-OR experience strongly preferred
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 12 months required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
Additional Information
- Orientation is 24 hours, held weekly; pre-start modules (8–10 hours) must be completed before the first day and annually thereafter, delivered via online learning, Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes
- Scrubs are provided (blue)
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- No RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday
- Former permanent, PRN, or EP staff of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before being considered for a travel assignment; facility rehire approval is required
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted
- Travel pairs are welcome, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is flexible with differing schedules
- First-time travelers will be considered, provided they have experience in a large, high-volume L&D setting
