Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of experience for a night shift position at a large academic medical center, with ICU and floor coverage responsibilities.
Details
- Work at a Level I Trauma, short-term acute care teaching hospital with 1,259 staffed beds
- Assigned to the Respiratory/Neuro Diagnostics unit covering both ICUs and general floors
- Night shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
- Every third weekend rotation required
- Holiday coverage is expected
- Floating within scope to ICU and floor settings to meet facility needs
- Charting in Epic (experience required)
- Block scheduling is not available
Requirements
- Current RRT credential required
- BLS (BCLS) certification required
- Missouri Respiratory Care Practitioner License required; license required if applicable
- Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency in airway management including endotracheal tube suctioning, extubation, nasal and oral airway placement, oropharyngeal suctioning, sputum specimen collection, and tracheostomy suctioning
- Experience with ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, troubleshooting high pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- ABG interpretation skills required
- Experience administering inhaled medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide (iNO), Pulmicort, racemic epinephrine, and Xopenex
- Experience with nebulizer types including hand-held, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic
- Experience with High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy
- Ability to walk relatively long distances across a large hospital campus
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Provide care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases, with a strong focus on managing mechanically ventilated patients
- May occasionally be asked to precept respiratory therapy students given the academic teaching environment
- Active AARC membership is strongly preferred
- A bachelor's degree in any field, or active pursuit of a bachelor's degree, is strongly preferred
- Scrub color: medium to dark gray
- RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
- Allied travelers may remain for up to 12 months, after which a 6-month break in service is required
- Former permanent employees of BJC facilities must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Parking passes are available for purchase on a monthly basis; specific options and pricing vary by lot
