Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of experience for a night shift position at a large academic teaching hospital, with ICU and floor coverage responsibilities.
Details
- Works in a short-term acute care academic teaching hospital with 1,259 staffed beds
- Covers both ICU and general floor settings as needed
- Night shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
- Every third weekend rotation required
- Holiday coverage expected
- Floating between ICUs and general floors is required
- Uses Epic EMR; experience required
- Airway management procedures include endotracheal tube/suctioning, extubation, nasal airway suctioning, oral airway placement, oropharyngeal suctioning, sputum specimen collection, and tracheostomy/suctioning
- Medication administration includes Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide (iNO), Pulmicort, racemic epinephrine, and Xopenex
- Medication delivery systems include aerosol mask, aerosol trach setup, and metered dose inhalers
- Nebulizer types include handheld, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic
- Oxygen therapy includes High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Ventilator management includes BiPAP, CPAP, troubleshooting high pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- ABG interpretation required
Requirements
- RRT credential required
- Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience required
- BLS (BCLS) certification required
- Missouri Respiratory Care Practitioner License required for consideration; license required if applicable
- Epic EMR experience required
- Ability to care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases
- Proficiency in managing mechanically ventilated patients
- Ability to walk relatively long distances throughout a large hospital campus
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Active AARC membership strongly preferred
- A bachelor's degree in any field — or active pursuit of one — is strongly preferred
- May occasionally be asked to precept respiratory therapy students, as this is a teaching hospital
- Scrub color: medium to dark gray
- RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO during the first week of orientation
- Block scheduling is not available
- Local candidates are not accepted; candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility
- Former permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning to any facility in this system as a traveler
- Travelers may work for up to 12 months before a 6-month break in service is required
