Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Medical/Surgical position specializing in post-op GI and wound care, requiring at least one completed travel contract and a minimum of 2 years of experience.
Details
- Medical/Surgical unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Specializes in post-op GI surgery and wound care patients
- Patient diagnoses include pancreatitis, GI bleeds, bowel obstructions, bowel perforation, wound infections, post-op infections, mass removal, esophageal perforation, GSW, MVC, and diverticulitis
- Special procedures encountered include pancreatectomy, esophagectomy, Whipple, splenectomy, adrenalectomy, cystectomy, colectomy, thyroidectomy, mastectomy, hepatic resection, Nissen, bariatric surgery, TURP, gastrectomy, parathyroidectomy, and ex-lap
- Equipment used includes PEG, PEJ, PCA, peritoneal drain, JP drain, hemovac, wound vac, nephrostomy tubes, ileostomy, colostomy, and urostomy
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active LA RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required; all certifications must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience required
- Hands-on experience working full-time on a post-op unit required
- Post-op GI and wound care experience required
- Med/Surg hospital experience required
- At least one completed travel contract required
- Experience with surgical drains and colostomy care preferred
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside 65+ miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Any requested time off must be disclosed and discussed during the interview process
- Upon accepting an assignment, the unit manager may assign you to an emergency response team, which may require you to remain at the facility during or after an emergency event or serve as part of a relief team — candidates who are not comfortable with this expectation should not apply
- First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
