Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) Stepdown position requiring cardiac telemetry expertise, night shift availability, and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Details
- Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital setting
- Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) Stepdown — 18-bed unit
- Patients requiring intermediate care including downgraded CVICU patients; unit heavily supports the thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart — common diagnoses include CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, cath lab cases, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4; 1:3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hours
- RNs are required to titrate drips including amio, nitro, nicardipine, epi, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
- Remote tele techs available; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips — unit has hardwired tele and tele box capabilities
- RT available 24/7; respiratory equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula — RNs are not required to operate beyond troubleshooting
- Hospitalist and intensivist in house with cardiology on call after hours
- Charge nurse present each shift; rarely takes a patient assignment
- Nurse aides/PCTs available at a 1:18 ratio
- Charting via Epic (experience required)
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirement
- Floating required to same and lower acuity levels
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required — pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with at least 1 year in a cardiovascular or stepdown patient population
- Experience titrating cardiac drips required
- Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must permanently reside more than 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- RNs must pass an open-book, pass/fail skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% — failure results in contract termination
- Unit orientation is tailored to experience, typically 1–2 shifts
- Schedule is manager-directed; no block or self-scheduling
- RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront — additional RTO will not be approved
- Scrub color: navy blue
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to remove will result to contract termination
- First-time travelers are not explicitly approved for this position
