Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care / Intermediate Care Unit position at a Level II Trauma Center in Bangor, ME, requiring PCU-level experience and a ME or compact RN license.
Details
- Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (12-hour shifts), 36 hours per week
- Intermediate Care Unit (PCU) within a 411-bed Level II Trauma Center
- Patient population includes cardiac (STEMI, NSTEMI, CHF, AFib with RVR, post-cardiac cath, post-ablation, 24h post-op TAVR), neurological (strokes, stable craniotomies, CIWA, seizure precautions), trauma, and medical/surgical patients (respiratory illness, long-term trach with vent, respiratory failure requiring BiPAP or high-flow O2, COPD exacerbation, post-op general surgery, sepsis, thyroid storm)
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4 on both days and nights
- CNA tech support at a ratio of 1:6–12 depending on staffing
- Cerner EMR — experience highly preferred; candidates without Cerner experience must be sent to manager for approval
- Equipment used includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating may be required to the ED, ICU, or CCU when there is an intermediate-level assignment in one of those departments
- May be placed on low census callback
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active ME or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Preferred certifications: AACN or CCRN
- Minimum 1 year of PCU/intermediate care experience; candidates with only Med/Surg experience must have at least 2 years with some PCU exposure
- Neuro/Trauma experience required, including stroke care and performing Q2H neuro checks
- Cardiac skills required: temporary pacemakers, TR bands, post-femoral sheath care, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Cardiac drip experience required (Amiodarone at set rate, Cardizem); insulin drip titration experience required
- Medical/Surgical skills required: high-flow O2, chest tubes, wound VAC dressing changes, BiPAP, drain/ostomy care, IV starts, trach care and suctioning, and management of trached patients on vents
- Must have completed at least two 13-week travel assignments — first-time travelers are not eligible
- Candidates must not have ever been permanently employed at any Northern Light Health Hospital
- Candidate's permanent address must be 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility; those living 100+ miles north may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Full SSN required for consideration
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references within the past year required; at least one must be from a supervisor, manager, or director (charge nurse acceptable — peer references not accepted)
- Copies of all certifications required for consideration
- Flu vaccination required for employment clearance; medical exemptions only are accepted and subject to facility review
Additional Information
- Unit support includes a charge nurse, phlebotomy, resource nurse (ICU-trained, 24/7), respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), trauma surgery coverage, PT/OT Monday–Friday, and an IV/VAT team for ultrasound-guided IVs and PICC/midline placement (RNs are expected to start their own peripheral IVs)
- Orientation consists of a general hospital orientation followed by 1 day on the unit
- Holiday coverage expectations vary based on unit needs
- Any time off requests must be submitted at the time of consideration and approved by the manager
- Professional scrubs of any color are required
- Free parking is available in designated areas
