Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Stepdown position requiring at least 1 year of telemetry/cardiac experience and an active IL RN license.
Details
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown / IMC setting in an acute care hospital
- Day shift schedule (3x12 or 4x12 hours, 06:45-19:15), with flexibility to accommodate either option
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Cares for patients requiring telemetry monitoring, cardiac drips, post-cardiac cath/surgery care, and neuro stepdown conditions
- Handles respiratory care including ventilator management, tracheostomy care, BiPAP/CPAP, and chest tube management
- Manages IV therapy including central lines, PICC lines, arterial lines, and port access
- Provides care for orthopedic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary/renal, and plastic surgery post-op patients
- Uses Cerner charting system (experience preferred, not required)
- Works every other weekend
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities for all travelers
Requirements
- Active Illinois RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 1 year of recent PCU/Stepdown/Telemetry experience required
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Experience with cardiac monitoring including dysrhythmia interpretation and management required
- Experience with cardiac drip management required (titration not required)
- Experience with rapid response/code team protocols required
- Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma experience preferred
- AHA and Red Cross certifications accepted; RQI cards not accepted
Additional Information
- Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated 562-bed acute care hospital
- Scrubs may be any solid color
- Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
- First day of assignment is a virtual, at-home orientation requiring completion of assigned modules by 4:00 PM CST
- Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
- Previous permanent or PRN employees must be separated from the facility for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
- Requested time off ideally limited to 5 days or fewer
- Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs are not accepted
- Housing availability in the area is limited, so early housing search is recommended
