Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedics position requiring at least 2 years of experience, Epic proficiency, and a valid NE or compact RN license.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg Orthopedics unit in a Level 2 Trauma hospital
- 22-bed unit with an average daily census of 6 patients
- Patient population includes total knee, hip, ankle, and shoulder replacements, as well as spinal (back and neck) surgeries
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; CNAs/patient care techs available at a 1:13 ratio
- Charge nurse present on each shift and carries an assignment
- 24/7 phlebotomy services available on-site
- Telemetry boxes used on the unit; tele techs handle reading and interpreting strips
- Charting via Epic EMR
- 12-hour night shifts, 1830–0630
- Every other weekend required
- Floating may be required to Med/Surg, rehab, or PCU (Med/Surg acuity)
Requirements
- Active NE state or compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Current BLS certification required; pending certifications not accepted
- Epic EMR experience required
- Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify candidate resides more than 50 miles from the facility
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates may not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity; those placed PRN through outside firms will be considered
- RNs are required to pass an open-book skills exam (90% minimum) on the Friday of orientation; failure results in contract termination
- If placed on call, candidates must be able to arrive on-site within 30 minutes if called back in
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
- Unit orientation consists of 1 day of department-specific training
- Holidays are rotated with permanent staff
- RTO requests (7 days or fewer per 13-week contract) must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
- Block scheduling is not approved unless weekends-only; candidates sharing a car or requesting the same schedule as a partner will not be considered
- Self-scheduling with cyclic rotation is used for shift assignments
- Successful candidates are team-oriented, flexible, willing to learn, and take ownership of their role within the department
