Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical/Surgical position at a Magnet-designated Level I Trauma Center, requiring Epic proficiency and charge experience.

Details

  • Acute care Med/Surg unit in a Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center (adult and pediatric) teaching hospital in Roanoke, VA
  • Patient population includes adults recovering from elective back surgeries, trauma, prostate cancer, gallbladder procedures, and cellulitis
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
  • Schedule is 3x12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
  • Floating within skillset required
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active Virginia state or Compact RN license required; a pending license is accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Charge nurse experience required
  • Proficiency in Med/Surg care with experience utilizing Rapid Response and Code teams
  • Skilled in peripheral line care/management, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, and isolation precautions
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Two professional references required for consideration
  • Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

Additional Information

  • RN may be required to serve in a charge nurse role and to precept other staff
  • The facility is a 703-licensed-bed academic teaching hospital affiliated with Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, University of Virginia, and Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Magnet-designated facility recognized for nursing excellence for over 20 years
  • One holiday shift required per 13-week contract
  • All RTO, block, and special scheduling requests must be submitted at time of initial consideration
