Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro unit position at an acute care hospital in Illinois, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• 13-week travel contract at a 372-bed acute care hospital
• Med/Surg Neuro unit serving patients with CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (18:00–06:30)
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating required within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
• Charting in Cerner (experience required)
• Patient care involves telemetry remote monitoring and use of rapid response teams
• Procedures and skills utilized include: colostomy care, feeding tube management, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral IV management, and starting IVs
• Medication experience utilized includes: Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
• Respiratory skills utilized include: chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy management, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen delivery, and pre/post thoracic surgery care
• Additional skills utilized include: wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions, surgical drain management, and continuous bladder irrigation
• Level II Trauma Center
• Teaching hospital (experience preferred)

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Required certifications: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — AHA and Red Cross accepted; RQI AHA cards are not accepted
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Experience with telemetry (remote monitoring) and rapid response teams required
• Experience with neurological cases required: CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injury
• Experience with respiratory equipment required: chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy management, and related airway management
• IV therapy skills required: port access, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, and starting IVs
• Continuous bladder irrigation experience required
• Wound care and wound vac experience required
• SSN and DOB required for consideration
• All required licenses and certifications must be active at time of consideration

Additional Information

• Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
• First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
• Candidates who have been a permanent or PRN employee of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Travel pairs are not accepted
• RTO requests ideally should not exceed 5 days; requests beyond 5 days require facility approval
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Free parking is available with a permit obtained during orientation
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Level II Trauma experience preferred
