Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position requiring Level 1 trauma experience, telemetry skills, and the ability to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance.

Details

  • Acute care Med/Surg unit (4W) in a hospital setting with 22 private rooms
  • Common patient diagnoses include post-op, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, diabetes, and infection
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5; no PCTs on unit — a resource RN supports in addition to the charge RN
  • Heparin drips are titrated; no cardiac gtts on this unit
  • RT is assigned directly to the unit
  • No telemetry on this unit, but telemetry experience is preferred due to float requirements
  • Charting is done in Cerner
  • 12-hour day shifts
  • 4 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) required per 4-week period
  • Holiday coverage required based on unit rotation
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Self-scheduling done 4 weeks at a time
  • Travelers are first to float to other Med/Surg and telemetry areas within the hospital

Requirements

  • Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license currently in hand — pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current BLS certification required — pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg experience required
  • Level 1 trauma experience required
  • Telemetry experience strongly preferred due to float requirements
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (basic or advanced) exam prior to offer confirmation — two attempts allowed
  • Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
  • A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position

Additional Information

  • This is a newer unit that is actively building its team; some growth and process development may still be occurring
  • Orientation consists of 2 preceptored shifts on the unit, plus a 12-hour general orientation
  • All RNs must complete a SIMs Lab on the first day of orientation covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes — this is a pass/fail assessment and sterile field competency is strictly evaluated
  • Additional orientation includes lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational/informational only)
  • A pass/fail exam is also administered on day 1 of orientation — details provided upon hire
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • Natural hair color and no facial piercings are required; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • A personal vehicle is required
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible — candidates placed PRN through outside firms will be considered
  • A charge RN is not counted in the patient ratio; a house supervisor is available 24/7, and a manager is available Monday–Friday
American Traveler Job ID #P-722356. Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined. Posted job title: Travel RN - Med/Surg
