Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU position at a Level II Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, active NE or compact RN license, and ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

  • Acute care ICU setting at a Level II Trauma facility
  • 33-bed ICU unit with an average daily census of 16
  • Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adult patients
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
  • RNs are required to manage respiratory equipment ranging from nasal cannula to ventilator
  • RNs must read, interpret, and document telemetry strips; GE monitor system used with tele tech oversight
  • Epic EMR used for charting
  • 12-hour day shifts, 0630–1830
  • Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
  • Floating may be required to PCU or occasionally Med/Surg with typical ratios of 1:4 or 1:5
  • Minimum of 2 holidays falling within the contract period are required
  • If placed on call and called back in, the RN must be able to arrive onsite within 30 minutes
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
  • Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications not accepted
  • Experience titrating cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation drips required
  • Experience with ventilators and full range of respiratory support equipment required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify permanent address for radius eligibility
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Nurse aides are available based on census and may assist with 1:1 sits or floor support; a Healthcare Support Tech is available 3 days per week (Monday–Friday, 0800–1630)
  • Travelers are added into the self-scheduling system after core staff have scheduled
  • Block scheduling is not approved unless it is weekends only
  • One shift of unit/department-specific orientation is provided
  • A pass/fail open-book exam is administered during orientation on Wednesday; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; permanent address on driver's license is used to confirm eligibility
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
  • RTO must be requested upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract will be approved, and additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
