Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Work in a Clinical Decision unit at a 241-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital
- 24-bed unit with an average daily census of 24
- Patient population includes various diagnoses such as cardiac, respiratory, and neuro in a fast-paced observation setting
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 (day and night), with potential surge ratios of up to 1:7-8
- CNA support at a 1:12 ratio; no HUC on unit
- Telemetry monitoring performed remotely with a Tele tech
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Low census call possible; night shift staff may be called back up to 3:00 AM
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mtn, Lincoln, and Central Division facilities) per regional needs — candidates who are unwilling to float should not apply
- EMR: Epic (minimum 6 months of experience required)
- IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitoring: Masimo in all rooms
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone)
- General Med/Surg skillset required, including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV starts, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
- Minimum 6 months of Epic EMR experience required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
- Orientation includes NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scheduling is on a 6-week cycle
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Department support includes a charge nurse (may carry a patient assignment), phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, Respiratory Therapy (24/7), on-site hospitalist during day shift (virtual evenings/overnight), and intensivist (24/7)
- Required scrub color is navy
- Free parking is available on site
