Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a float pool ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and an AL or compact RN license.
Details
- Work setting is a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with a Level III NICU in Montgomery, AL
- Float pool position covering multiple ICU units: General Cardiac ICU (10 beds), CVICU (12 beds), MICU (14 beds), Neuro ICU (14 beds), and Surgical ICU (14 beds)
- Patient types vary by unit and include STEMI, post-op CABG/valve surgery, V-A and V-V ECMO, acute respiratory/renal/liver failure, DKA, sepsis, CVA, subarachnoid and subdural hemorrhage, multisystem trauma, and more
- Patient ratio is 1:2
- General Cardiac ICU skills include vent care, hemodynamic monitoring, medication titrations, arterial lines, IABP, Impella, EKOS, CRRT (PrismaFlex), chest tubes, Swan-Ganz catheter, FloTrac monitoring, and hypothermia protocol
- CVICU skills include Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, CRRT, medication titration, IABP, Impella, EKOS, vent management, and Tandem Life/Tandem Lung
- MICU skills include arterial lines, trach care, chest tubes, vasopressor and sedation usage, and central lines
- Neuro ICU skills include trach care, arterial lines, vent/ETT management, EVD, and ICP monitoring (facility can teach)
- Surgical ICU skills include trach care, arterial lines, chest tubes, wound care, drip management (pressors and sedation), and CRRT (preferred)
- EMR is Cerner; IV pumps are Plum 360; medication dispensing via Omnicell; Spacelabs monitors used
- RNs are required to read and interpret ICU telemetry monitoring
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 36 hours per week with possible 48-hour weeks
- Schedule cycle is 6 weeks
- Every other weekend rotation required; back-to-back weekends possible but rare
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required to like units (ICU-to-ICU, ICU-to-MS task with a limit of 3, or ICU-to-ER/ICU holds)
Requirements
- Active AL RN license or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- First-time travelers considered with at least 2 years of ICU experience and Cerner or Epic EMR experience
- Cerner or Epic EMR experience required for first-time travelers; 2 years of experience required for traditional travelers
- Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Required documentation for consideration includes: 1 reference from a charge nurse or above within the past 12 months, copy of certifications, full SSN, and DOB (day and month)
- Former permanent staff must have a minimum 6-month gap before being considered as a traveler
Additional Information
- Traveler will be assigned a home ICU unit on the first day of orientation
- Orientation consists of 24 hours of classroom time followed by 24 hours on the unit for new travelers or those returning after 1+ year away; orientation for rehires is assessed based on last date worked at the facility
- Unit support includes CNAs (1:10 ratio), a charge nurse each shift, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalist coverage
- Holiday coverage required per facility policy: one major and one minor seasonal holiday
- Interviews are conducted via SimpliFi video platform; candidates should be prepared for an interview
- Scrubs may be any color
- Staff parking is available in an on-campus parking deck
