Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU travel assignment at a Critical Access Hospital in West Virginia, requiring ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications and the ability to work across PreOp, Phase 1, and Phase 2.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
- PACU department covering PreOp, Phase 1, and Phase 2
- Staffing ratios follow ASPAN guidelines: no more than 1:2 in Phase 1; typically 1:2 or better in Phase 2 with at least 2 RNs always present
- Schedule is four 10-hour day shifts per week; PreOp starts at 6 AM, Phase 2 at 7 AM, and Phase 1 at 8 AM
- Call requirement averages 3–4 shifts per month, including possible Friday/Saturday/Sunday call; call is generally light and rarely extends past 7 PM
- 30-minute call response time — must be dressed and ready to work within 30 minutes
- Weekend requirement is approximately once every 8 weeks
- Holidays are covered by call
- No floating outside of the PACU department; must be able to work PreOp, Phase 1, and Phase 2
- EMR is Epic
- Philips telemetry monitoring used; RNs must be able to read and interpret strips
- Charge Nurse and one Patient Care Technician (PCT) are present in PreOp/PACU
- RT is in-house 24/7; Pharmacy is not in-house 24/7, but Pyxis is available
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
- Minimum 2 years of PACU RN experience required
- BSN not required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips required
- Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Responsibilities span all phases of the perioperative continuum: PreOp, Phase 1 (post-anesthesia recovery), and Phase 2 (step-down/discharge readiness)
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- Orientation consists of 1–2 shifts with a preceptor following the main hospital orientation
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered
- Candidates who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative year or more must also take a 2-year break before returning
- Two references are required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
- If the candidate worked at a permanent facility within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
- A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
