Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of acute care experience and the ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias on night shift.

Details

• Med/Surg Telemetry unit in a hospital setting
• Patient population includes chest pain, CAD, DM, PVD, COPD exacerbation, COVID+, TIA, stroke, HTN, AFib, AFlutter, bradycardia, tachycardia, GI bleed, wound infection, cellulitis, and more
• Specialized procedures include pre/post angiogram and angioplasty (no sheath pulls), PPM/AICD, LINQ recorder, EGD, colonoscopy, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, wound debridement, chest tube placement, central line catheter insertions, thoracentesis, and paracentesis
• Equipment used includes telemetry monitoring systems, chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac), and wound vacs
• Cardiac drips are managed but not titrated for blood pressure
• EMR: Epic (preferred)
• Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Orientation is held 5 days a week and includes completion of required facility modules

Requirements

• Active RN license — LA state or Compact license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• ACLS and NIHSS certifications preferred (AHA-issued)
• Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
• Telemetry experience required, including ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias
• Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, and peripheral line care
• Experience with pre/post cardiac cath and cardiac monitoring
• Must reside 65+ miles from the facility (based on address on driver's license) to be eligible for this position
• Two manager or supervisor references (not charge RNs) required prior to contract start
• A current NURSYS report (within 4 weeks) is required for consideration

• Candidates who previously worked as permanent staff or in-house agency contractors at Ochsner Health System must have been separated for at least 1 full year before returning as a traveler
• Upon accepting an assignment, the unit manager may designate travelers to an Emergency Team, which may require remaining at the facility during or after an emergency event or serving as part of a relief team
• Any requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed and discussed during the interview process
• All certifications must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
