Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring a minimum of 2 years of cardiac floor experience and ACLS certification, with night shift scheduling at a hospital in North Carolina.

Details

• Night shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, 3x12-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
• Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:4 for surgical step-down, 1:5–6 for lower acuity patients
• Patient population includes cardiac and vascular diagnoses such as AFib, CHF, ACS, CAD, aortic/mitral valve disease, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, carotid stenosis, and venous stasis
• Special procedures include CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman), VATS, carotid endarterectomy, FEM-POP bypass, amputations, post-cath, post-DCCV, post-EP procedures, and pacemaker placements
• Required clinical skills include cardiac telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/step-down care, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, sheath removal, post-MI and pre/post cardiac cath care, cardiac drip management and titration, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac), and non-invasive airway management (CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula)
• Specialized equipment includes Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-stop, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires; arterial line experience is preferred but not required
• EMR: Epic (documentation); Pyxis (medication); SBAR (communication)
• 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period (flexible)
• Floating follows unit rotation; travelers are not first to float
• Local candidates are accepted within 50 miles of the facility

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (may be pending at time of consideration)
• Minimum 2 years of cardiac floor experience required
• Prior travel experience required unless candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but required before start)

Additional Information

• Preferred skills include arterial line management, wound care/wound vac, and charge nurse experience
• Scrub color required: navy
• Orientation is 24 hours; no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
• Pre-start modules of approximately 8–10 hours are required and must be completed annually; modules are completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes
• Candidates must be available for an interview; all candidates will be interviewed before an offer is extended
• RTO of 7 days or fewer may be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; RTO exceeding 7 days requires facility approval
• Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters; unit consolidation and redeployment to other areas may occur mid-contract
• Any previous permanent, PRN, or per-diem employee of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered for a travel position; facility rehire approval is required
• Travel pairs are allowed, but each traveler must have their own transportation and be open to different schedules
• Contracts are a minimum of 13 weeks with the possibility of extension
