Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring 2 years of experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit (5S) in a Level II Trauma hospital setting
• Patient population includes CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic, and oncology patients (permanent staff administer chemotherapy)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is generally 1:5-6 on both days and nights; acuity-dependent and occasionally up to 7 patients near end of shift
• 12-hour day shifts (7a–7p), with night shift availability (7p–7a)
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday, applicable to both day and night shifts)
• Holiday rotation shared with permanent staff
• Charge nurse present on all units; day charge does not take patients, night charge does
• CNAs available on all units
• Philips telemetry monitoring in use; monitor techs available on most units
• RT available in-house 24/7 for CPAP and BiPAP management; RNs perform aerosols for non-vented patients and EKGs
• IV Team available house-wide until 10 PM Mon–Fri and until 3:30 PM on weekends
• In-house pharmacy 24/7 with Accudose medication dispensing
• EMR: Epic
• Floor-specific orientation consists of 1–2 shifts with a preceptor
• Floating to Critical Care is possible; travelers floated there are assigned med/surg or stepdown-type patients

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates
• Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)

Additional Information

• Royal blue scrubs required
• No artificial (false) nails permitted
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before re-applying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before a 2-year break is required
• Unit is traveler-friendly; manager may accommodate requests to work primarily on the 6N unit and will make efforts to block-schedule when requested
• Skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
