Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level III trauma facility, requiring C-section experience and advanced fetal monitoring certification.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with a dedicated Labor & Delivery unit
- Unit includes 7 L&D beds, 2 triage beds, 10 postpartum beds, averaging 1–3 births per day (~830 births per year)
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
- Nurses must be able to function in both L&D and couplet care roles as census requires
- High-risk OB patient population, including pre-eclampsia and OB emergencies; no in-house OB or Neonatologist
- Respiratory therapist available on the unit 24/7; support staff includes Patient Care Technicians, Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), and OB scrub tech
- 24/7 in-house pharmacy available
- 12-hour shifts available on both days (6a–6p) and nights (6p–6a)
- Minimum of 3 weekend shifts required per 4-week scheduling period
- One on-call shift required per 4-week schedule
- May float to the ED or Med/Surg unit if experienced
- Charting system: Allscripts
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring (non-AWHONN pathway accepted; AWHONN AFM also accepted)
- Minimum 3 years of L&D nursing experience required
- C-section experience required
- Proficiency in fetal monitoring and appropriate interventions for fetal distress
- Experience caring for high-risk OB patients, including pre-eclampsia management
- Strong OB emergency assessment skills required, as no in-house OB provider is available at all times
- BSN not required
Additional Information
- Orientation is held every Monday and consists of approximately 8 hours
- Nurses must be prepared to manage OB emergencies independently until a provider arrives, given the absence of an in-house OB/Neonatologist
- Holiday coverage expectations may apply per unit scheduling needs
- Up to 3 shift cancellations allowed per 13-week contract
