Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Tele unit at a Critical Access, Trauma Level 4 facility requiring at least 1 year of MS/MS-Tele experience and the ability to float to like units.
Details
- Acute care setting on a Med/Tele unit with 24 inpatient beds, plus up to 10 observation and day surgery patients
- Common diagnoses include NHP, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, GU conditions, pacemaker care, sepsis, nursing home placements, and day surgical cases (ortho hips/knees, cholecystectomies, appendectomies, TURP-CBI)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 5:1 on day shift and 6:1 at 11pm; team nursing with LPNs operates at a 2:7 ratio
- Telemetry strips are reviewed in the ICU daily; basic arrhythmia knowledge is required with a physical monitor at the nurses' station
- No drip titration required
- Hospitalist on-site until 6pm daily, then telemedicine coverage; RT available 24/7 and oversees the entire hospital
- CPAP equipment in use on unit
- 12-hour shifts rotating days and nights (0700-1900 and 1900-0700)
- Weekend rotation required every other weekend, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Standby/on-call assignment is a possibility
- Floating to like units and patients is required
- EMR is currently Cerner, transitioning to Epic
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active Michigan (MI) RN license required by start date
- Required certification: BLS (AHA); ACLS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or MS-Tele (acute care) experience required
- Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 experience preferred
- TURP-CBI experience or knowledge preferred
- Must be proficient and comfortable with IV starts (no IV team on-site)
- Basic telemetry arrhythmia interpretation skills required
- 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
Additional Information
- Travelers may be placed as relief charge nurse; charge nurses carry a patient assignment
- Nurse aides are available on the unit
- Small pediatric population (approx. 3/yr) — travelers will not be assigned peds patients unless they have prior peds experience or no other options are available
- Orientation consists of an 8-hour computer education day with 4 hours of shadowing, followed by a 12-hour orientation shift, then independent practice on day 3
- Self-scheduling is accommodated when possible; longer blocks of shifts (e.g., 6 in a row) are preferred over blocked scheduling
- Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 3 assigned holidays
- Solid professional scrubs required; no specific color mandated
- Candidates who have previously worked for this health system must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and will receive a reduced travel pay rate
