Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg travel contract in Wheeling, WV, requiring at least 2 years of experience and BLS and NIHSS certifications.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg unit (6N Overflow) in a hospital setting with 30 beds
- Common patient diagnoses include CHF, COPD, cellulitis, pneumonia, urosepsis, AKI, cholecystitis, and appendicitis
- Patient ratio of 1:6–7; candidates must be comfortable with a 1:7 assignment
- Telemetry is present on the unit and monitored remotely by monitor techs
- Intermittent BiPAP used; no ventilators on the unit
- Heparin drip titration based on aPTT results is required
- PCTs (Patient Care Technicians) are available on the unit
- One charge RN on the floor who also carries a patient assignment
- Charting via Epic EMR
- 12-hour night shifts
- Weekends scheduled as needed, typically every other weekend
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers are floated first based on census needs
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Comfort with a 1:6–7 patient ratio, including up to 1:7, is required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
- Any licensing hits or disciplinary actions must be disclosed upfront
- BSN is not required
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include providing direct patient care on a general Med/Surg overflow unit with a diverse acute care population
- Scrub color requirement: Navy Blue
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before applying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
- 2 references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference (from a perm facility if applicable within the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
- Work history covering the last 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) is required, with no gaps greater than 30 days
- A skills checklist completed within the past year is required
- Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
