Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) Stepdown position at a Level I Trauma Center in Nebraska, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac/vascular stepdown experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

  • Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit (CVU 5E) in an acute care hospital setting with Level I Trauma designation
  • 18-bed unit supporting a thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart program
  • Patient population includes intermediate care patients, downgraded CVICU patients, and those with diagnoses such as CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours post-op
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other BP management medications
  • Unit uses telemetry monitoring with both hardwired and tele box capabilities; RNs must independently read and interpret tele strips
  • Respiratory therapy equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula; RNs are expected to troubleshoot
  • EMR: Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required to same-level and lower-acuity units
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Charge nurse present on each shift; rarely takes a patient assignment
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
  • Hospitalist and intensivist in-house 24/7; cardiology available on-call after hours
  • Respiratory therapy in-house 24/7

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license, currently in hand — pending licenses not accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac/vascular stepdown patient populations
  • Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required
  • BSN not required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
  • Must not be currently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Orientation is tailored to individual experience, typically 1–2 shifts on the unit, plus a 12-hour general orientation
  • A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on the Friday of orientation week; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure results in contract termination
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Holiday coverage is expected per unit scheduling needs
  • Schedule is managed by the unit manager; no block or self-scheduling
  • RTO must be declared upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
  • Candidates who were previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit facilities will be considered
  • First-time travelers are not explicitly excluded, but 1 year of cardiac stepdown experience is required
