Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg IMC/Tele position at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring at least 1 year of telemetry or IMC/stepdown experience with a strong cardiac background.

- Acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma Center
- 6N unit is a 28-bed Med/Surg IMC/Telemetry unit with a heavy cardiac focus
- Patient population is up to 75% cardiac, including pre/post cath, pre-CABG, chest pain, and NSTEMIs, with general cases including CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, wounds, and overflow strokes
- Nurse-to-patient ratio averages 1:5 on days/evenings and 1:5–7 on nights (must be comfortable with up to 7 patients)
- RNs are required to titrate drips; common drips include insulin, heparin, nitro, diltiazem, and Lasix
- Telemetry technicians provide 24/7 remote monitoring; a unit monitor is also available for nurses to verify rhythm capture
- Respiratory equipment includes continuous CPAP/BiPAP, high flow, Vapotherm, nebs, and chest PT (no ventilators)
- EMR is Cerner, with a transition to Epic underway
- 13-week contract with 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730)
- Shift options include 0700–1900, 1100–2300, and 1900–0730; no self-scheduling, block scheduling accommodated when possible
- Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) required
- Every other holiday required
- Floating to other Med/Surg floors on a rotating basis; floating outside the Med/Surg cluster possible for patient observer 1:1 needs or based on specialty experience
- Agency staff are not placed on call, but may be low-census'd or reallocated based on staffing needs
Requirements
- Active WI or Compact RN license required by start date
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of Tele, IMC, or stepdown RN experience required
- Majority of experience must be in a cardiac setting given the unit's heavy cardiac focus
- Drip titration experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
- 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include titrating cardiac and general drips, monitoring telemetry rhythms, and managing a high-acuity cardiac and general med/surg patient population
- Charge RNs carry a reduced patient assignment and serve as a resource to floor RNs and nursing assistants
- Nurse aides are available on the unit at an average ratio of 1:9 on days/evenings and 1:14 on nights
- Orientation consists of one 12-hour day off-unit and one 12-hour shift on-unit
- Any color scrubs are acceptable; clean and professional appearance required
- Candidates who have previously worked at this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date; hospital approval is also required
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a reduced travel pay rate
- Local candidates are accepted for this position
