Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level II trauma acute care hospital, requiring BLS and NRP certifications with a minimum of 1 year of L&D experience.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting, Level II trauma center
  • Labor & Delivery unit with 7 L&D beds, 2 OR suites for C-sections, and 17 postpartum beds
  • High-volume unit delivering approximately 950–1,000 births per year
  • High-risk patient population including preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, placenta previa, preterm labor (PTL), and PROM
  • Non-LDRP unit; agency RNs are required to float to the MBU/Antepartum area located on the same floor
  • L&D RNs handle admission/prep and recovery in the LDR area but do not circulate for C-sections
  • LDR RNs are responsible for recovery of both mother and baby, as there is no dedicated Newborn Nursery (NBN) RN
  • RNs are required to titrate drips, including insulin and oxytocin
  • Fetal monitoring system: Corometric EFM integrated with Cerner/Fetalink
  • EMR: Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
  • 12-hour day shifts (0700–1930) with occasional PM shifts (1100–2300) as needed
  • Every 3rd weekend required, or every other weekend with block scheduling
  • Rotating holiday coverage required
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Floating may be required to serve as a patient sitter elsewhere in the hospital; NICU float possible for trained and comfortable candidates
  • OB techs available on-unit, typically one per shift
  • OB provider in-house 24/7; MFM on call; neonatologist available as needed; anesthesia in-house 24/7

Requirements

  • Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be active by start date)
  • Current certifications required: BLS (AHA) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Minimum 1 year of L&D nursing experience required
  • Two professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years of relevant experience
  • BSN not required

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include admitting and prepping L&D patients, managing labor, and performing postpartum recovery for both mother and newborn
  • Charge RN does not typically take a patient assignment, allowing availability as a second provider at all deliveries
  • Scheduling is not self-directed, but the unit works closely with individuals to accommodate preferences; block scheduling has been permitted in the past
  • Hospital provides purple scrubs for unit staff
  • Orientation consists of 3 days total: 1 day hospital-specific and 2 days unit-specific
  • Candidates who previously worked for this health system as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date, and hospital approval is required
  • Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be eligible at a modified pay rate
American Traveler Job ID #P-722851. Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined. Posted job title: Travel RN - Labor & Delivery
