Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a float pool ED Holding Support position requiring MS/Tele skills, telemetry interpretation, and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Details

  • This is an ED Holding Support position located within the Float Pool of a hospital setting
  • The ED Holding unit (EDIP) is an inpatient holding area located within the Emergency Department, caring for adult patients awaiting an inpatient bed
  • Patient population includes any adult medical/surgical diagnoses; PCU-level patients are possible
  • Target nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:6 for MS/Tele patients and 1:4 for PCU-level patients
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15), with 36 or 48 hours per week available
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating to ED and MedSurg areas is required as needed
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); Pyxis and SBAR communication also used
  • Standard equipment includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other monitoring systems
  • Scheduling is manager-assigned

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • Required skills include: MS/Tele, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), use of Rapid Response Teams, colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, renal failure management, blood product administration, peripheral line care and management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, heparin and insulin administration, isolation precautions, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula and oxygen mask use, portable oxygen, and tracheostomy management
  • Preferred skills include: NIHSS certification, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draws, IV starts, CVA care, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injury, TBI, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, and wound care/wound vac
  • Must pass an EKG test prior to start
  • Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years are highly preferred (pending references are accepted at time of consideration but required by start date)

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are not required to have prior travel experience and are welcome to apply
  • All candidates will be interviewed due to the high acuity and mixed patient population on this unit
  • Orientation consists of 12 hours of on-unit orientation plus 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules (via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person classes); modules must also be completed annually
  • Navy scrubs are required
  • Contract staff are expected to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team assignments and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters; unit consolidation and reassignment may occur mid-contract
  • Candidates who were previously employed (permanent, PRN, or extended placement) by this health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; RTO is not permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
  • Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • RTO requests after booking cannot be accommodated; excessive call-offs or unapproved RTO may result in contract cancellation
  • Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced pay rate
  • Travel pairs are welcome, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
  • Contracts are a minimum of 13 weeks, with longer extensions possible for interested candidates
