Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a float pool-based ED Holding/MS Tele position requiring at least 2 years of experience, telemetry skills, and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

• This is an ED Holding support position located within the float pool, caring for adult patients awaiting inpatient beds within the Emergency Department
• Patient population includes any adult medical/surgical diagnosis; PCU-level patients are possible
• Travelers are expected to float to the ED and MedSurg areas as needed
• Target ratios are 1:6 for MS/Tele patients and 1:4 for PCU-level patients
• Day shift: 3x12-hour shifts (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM), with options for 36 or 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend is required
• Required skills include MS/Tele care, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), use of rapid response teams, colostomy and feeding tube care, renal failure management, blood product administration, peripheral and PICC line management, phlebotomy, heparin and insulin administration, isolation precautions, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
• Preferred skills include NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draw, IV starts, CVA care, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, TBI, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, and wound care/wound vac
• Equipment used includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and standard monitoring systems
• EMR: Epic; Medication dispensing: Pyxis; Communication framework: SBAR
• Scrub color required: Navy

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (may be pending at time of consideration)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
• Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation and management required
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years are required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)

Additional Information

• This is a high-acuity, mixed unit; all candidates will be interviewed
• Orientation consists of 12 hours of unit orientation, plus 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules (completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person classes) that are also required annually
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved provided it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
• Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Contract staff will be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
• Any previous permanent, PRN, or EP employee of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
• Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
• Travel pairs are welcome; each traveler must have their own transportation and be flexible with differing schedules
• Contract extensions beyond 13 weeks are possible; indicate preference for 36 or 48 hours per week when applying
• First-time travelers are not required for this position (traveler experience is not required)
