Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Med/Surg Telemetry unit with required orthopedic experience and Epic proficiency, working 12-hour night shifts.
Details
- MS/Tele unit in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes orthopedic, neuro spine, general med/surg, and post-surgical cases
- Average daily census of 37 patients across 39 beds
- Expected patient ratio of 5-6:1, with flexibility up to 7:1 in extreme cases
- Orthopedic and spine patients requiring attentive pain management
- COVID-positive patients are cared for on all units (not cohorted) unless escalated to the ICU
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15)
- Block scheduling available (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
- Every other weekend required; any weekend call-off must be made up on a weekend
- Floating is required and may include any other med/surg unit within the facility based on census needs
- Epic EMR used
- 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts may be available
- Choice of 36 or 48 hours per week available
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Certifications required: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Orthopedic nursing experience is required
- IV insertion and telemetry skills required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 12 months are highly preferred
Additional Information
- Preferred qualifications include ACLS certification, charge nurse experience, and Level I trauma experience
- Candidates must be prepared to manage orthopedic and spine patients with a focus on pain management in a fast-paced environment
- Weekly orientation provided; 8–10 hours of pre-start modules required (completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person)
- Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; no holiday RTO will be approved
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, provided it does not fall on a holiday and does not occur during the first week of the assignment
- Previous permanent, PRN, or employed staff of Novant Health or New Hanover Regional must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are subject to a different pay rate
- Travel pairs are allowed, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is comfortable with potentially different schedules
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they have Epic experience
