Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical/Oncology unit at a major teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of RN experience and telemetry skills on night shifts.
Details
- Work setting is a 29-bed Medical Surgical/Oncology unit within a large acute care hospital (838 beds)
- Patient population includes adults with cancer, palliative care patients, urology patients, and telemetry patients
- Family education regarding oncological processes is part of the unit's focus
- Patient ratios are 4–5:1 on days and 5–6:1 on nights
- Schedule is 3x12-hour night shifts (7p–7a), with 36hr or 48hr weekly contract options available
- Every other weekend is required
- Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs is required
- Charting is done in Cerner
- Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital; member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH)
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required; candidates with a pending RN license may be considered
- Current BLS certification required
- ONS or ONCC certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Telemetry experience required
- Proficiency with central line draws, ports, blood administration, PCA pumps, bone marrow aspiration assist, and Pleurx chest tubes required
- Chemotherapy administration experience preferred but not required
- Oncology experience preferred, but strong candidates without it will be considered
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1–March 31), unless a documented medical allergy is provided by a physician or allergist
- Must provide 2 manager or charge nurse references (within the past 2 years) for consideration
- Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to qualify; candidates within 75–99 miles may be submitted for case-by-case facility approval
- Former permanent employees of this health system are not eligible to return as travelers until 2 years after their last day of permanent employment
- Scrub color for RNs is Royal Blue or White
- Blocked schedule requests can be accommodated
- Holiday RTO requests should be limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
- Parking is complimentary for travelers
- COVID vaccine is not required
