Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a float pool-based ED Holding Support position, requiring 2+ years of MS/Tele experience and the ability to float across ED and Med/Surg areas on night shift.

Details

  • This is an ED holding support position located within the float pool of an acute care hospital
  • The ED Holding unit (EDIP) serves adult patients awaiting inpatient bed placement within the Emergency Department, covering any adult medical/surgical diagnosis
  • Travelers may be assigned PCU-level patients in addition to standard MS/Tele cases
  • Floating is required to the ED and Med/Surg areas as needed
  • Target nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:6 for MS/Tele and 1:4 for PCU-level patients
  • Night shift, 18:45–07:15 (3x12s), with the option of 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Every other weekend is required
  • Required skills include: telemetry interpretation and management, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, on-unit and remote telemetry monitoring, use of Rapid Response Teams, colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, renal failure management, blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, heparin and insulin management, isolation precautions, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, oxygen delivery systems (nasal cannula, face masks, portable tanks), oral suctioning, and tracheostomy management
  • Preferred skills include: NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draws, IV starts, CVA care, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, TBI, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, and wound care/wound vac
  • EMR: Epic (documentation); Pyxis (medication); SBAR (communication)
  • Standard equipment in use includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other monitoring systems
  • Schedule is manager-assigned

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (may be pending at time of consideration)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
  • MS/Tele clinical experience required
  • Must pass an EKG test prior to start
  • Two professional manager/supervisor references from within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable, but must be provided before start)

Additional Information

  • This is a high-acuity mixed unit; all candidates will be interviewed
  • Orientation consists of 12 hours of on-unit orientation plus 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules (including Zoom, webinar, and in-person classes)
  • No RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation; up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday
  • Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Contract staff are expected to participate in Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team coverage and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
  • Previous permanent, PRN, or EP employees of this health system must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
  • Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible at a different rate
  • Navy scrubs are required
  • First-time travelers are not required for this position
  • Travel pairs are welcome, provided each individual has their own transportation and is flexible with differing schedules
  • Longer contracts beyond 13 weeks may be available for interested candidates
