Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift contract on a Med/Surg Telemetry Infusion/Oncology unit, requiring acute care experience and proficiency with titratable drips.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a Med/Surg Telemetry unit specializing in Infusion/Oncology (8N)
- 27-bed unit serving oncology/hematology, general medical, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF/COPD, pneumonia, and failure-to-thrive patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4–5 (day/eve) and 1:6 (nights), with a possible maximum of 1:7 when short-staffed
- Nurse aides available at ratios of 1:7–9 (day/eve) and up to 1:14 (overnight)
- Centralized tele techs monitor and read strips; RNs are expected to be tele-aware but are not required to formally read strips
- RNs required to titrate drips including insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide; must be comfortable managing blood transfusions
- Respiratory therapy is in-house 24/7 and supports multiple units; equipment may include continuous CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow O2
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (1900–0730), 12-hour shifts
- Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Holiday coverage required: 2 of 3 winter holidays, every other holiday during other times of the year
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Travelers are first to float within med/surg units; floating outside of med/surg is limited to observer needs or helping hands tasks, done in 4-hour increments
- Charting system is Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be active by start date)
- Current BLS certification (AHA)
- Minimum 1 year of acute care RN experience required
- Must have experience with titratable drips and comfort managing complex patients
- No oncology or chemotherapy experience required
- 2 professional references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from the same specialty within the last 3 years
Additional Information
- Travelers may be asked to step into a charge nurse role, particularly on night shift, if they are comfortable doing so
- Charge nurse is present on all shifts and takes a modified patient assignment (days 1:2–3, nights 1:4)
- Orientation consists of 1 day of computer/CBT/regulatory training plus one 12-hour floor shift
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred; travel pairs will not be accepted
- Scrubs of any color are acceptable; scrubs bearing another health system's logo are not permitted
- Scheduling requests are accommodated when possible, but block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
- Candidates who have previously worked for this health system as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their consideration date
- Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be eligible at a different pay structure
- Local candidates are accepted for this position
