Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a NICU position at a Level 1 trauma, nationally ranked children's hospital in San Diego, CA, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Level 4 NICU experience and a CA RN license.
Details
- NICU setting within a 60-bed unit at a Magnet-recognized, Level 1 trauma, nationally ranked academic teaching children's hospital
- Patient population includes critically ill neonates requiring advanced respiratory support, surgical care, and complex line management
- Experience required with oscillators, conventional ventilators, CPAP, nasal cannula specialty gases, PICC lines, Broviacs, UAC/UVC/PAL lines, trachs, ostomies, and G-tubes
- Comfort with line changes involving multiple drips and pre/post-op care is required
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
- Weekend availability required with full scheduling flexibility (no fixed weekend requirement)
- Floating required within scope to other units including PICU and CVICU, as well as NICU satellite campuses
- Charting via Epic
- No on-call responsibilities
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required; pending license considered if an ETA for posting is available
- Current BLS and Advanced NRP certifications required; PALS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent Level 4 NICU experience required
- Level 3 NICU experience considered only if the candidate has strong surgical experience from a Level 3 NICU that performs surgeries on newborns
- Cardiac experience required
- Must have reliable personal transportation for floating to satellite campuses
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers with Level 4 NICU experience are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Maximum of 6 days of requested time off (RTO) for the duration of the contract
- All time off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application
- Mileage is reimbursed when floating from the home base NICU to any satellite campus location
- Hospital is recognized as a Top 10 Best Children's Hospital by U.S. News & World Report, holds Magnet Recognition, and is a Beacon Award of Excellence recipient
- Free parking is available for travelers
- Any color scrubs are permitted
