Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Major Trauma Med/Surg position requiring neuro surgery experience and ortho trauma skills, working night shifts on a 13-week contract.
Details
- Major trauma inpatient unit within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes multi-trauma, seizure, GSW, falls, TBI, stroke, sepsis, psych, epidural hematomas/hemorrhage, cerebral edema, encephalopathy, and orthopedic trauma (non-elective)
- Specialized procedures include craniotomy, spinal fusions, ORIF, muscle flaps, skin grafts, AKA/BKA, IM nails, external fixators, and spinal stimulators
- Equipment used includes traction, external fixators, trapeze, PCA pumps, JP drains, wound vacs, chest tubes, ortho braces, hemo vacs, central lines, trach, PEG, and NG tubes
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15
- Floating to all other inpatient units is required
- Scheduling requests (e.g., block scheduling) cannot be accommodated — schedule is assigned per unit need
- Every other holiday required
Requirements
- Active LA or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification (AHA required)
- ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications preferred
- Minimum experience required in neuro surgery (pre/post-operative care)
- Experience with TBIs and orthopedic trauma required
- Proficiency in blood product administration, PICC line management, IV starts, surgical drain management, chest tubes, and isolation precautions
- Must reside 65+ miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
Additional Information
- All certifications must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- In the event of an emergency, travelers may be assigned to an Emergency Team and expected to remain at the facility until the event has passed or serve on a relief team
- Candidates uncomfortable with emergency event assignments should not apply to this position
- RTO requests must be disclosed and discussed during the interview process
