Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Whole House Float ICU/PCU/MS position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and comfort working across all three unit types.
Details
- Float position covering ICU, PCU, and Medical-Surgical (MS) units within an acute care teaching hospital
- Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric), Magnet-designated facility affiliated with a medical school
- ICU patient ratio: 2:1 | PCU patient ratio: 5:1 | MS patient ratio: 6:1, with potential flex up to 7:1
- Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, meaning travelers may float between units up to 2-3 times per shift
- Night shift schedule: 3x12s, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- Epic EMR experience required
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience at a large Level I or Level II trauma facility
- Must be comfortable and experienced working in ICU, PCU, and MS settings
- Experience with patient ratios of at least 1:5 required
- Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC line management, central line care, arterial line management, and blood product administration
- Skilled in trach management, non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP), ventilator management, and chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
- Proficient in cardiac monitoring, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Epic EMR experience required
- Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidate must be fully comfortable practicing independently across ICU, PCU, and MS units, as float assignments change frequently throughout each shift
- Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
- All RTO, block scheduling, and special scheduling requests must be submitted upfront
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
