American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN Manager for a 13-week travel contract in an Interventional Radiology (IR) unit at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital in the Bronx, NY, requiring at least 1 year of IR experience and unit manager experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting at a Level II Trauma Center in the Bronx, NY
- Interventional Radiology (IR) unit with access to a Cath Lab on the 8th floor for vascular procedures — travel between both units may occur within the same day
- Unit is staffed by 7 RNs with 1 IR suite/room; averages 5–8 IR procedures per day plus CT prep/IV starts for approximately 50 patients per day
- Common cases include complex vascular procedures (embolizations, thrombectomies, DVT treatment using INARI or EKOS systems), various biopsies (IR breast, US thyroid, CT/MRI-guided), drain placements (abscesses, pleural effusions, paracentesis), pain management injections (spine, shoulder, hip, knee), and line placements (PICCs, ports, permcaths, tunneled catheters)
- Role functions as Charge Nurse, coordinating and managing the procedure calendar, with occasional patient care responsibilities as needed
- IR Chair is in-house with another MD throughout the day; on-call physician coverage begins after 5:00 PM
- A CST is paired with the physician for all IR procedures
- Day shift, 8.5-hour shifts with a 1-hour lunch break; 13-week contract
- Charting is a combination of electronic (Allscripts EMR) and paper-based, depending on the modality and procedure; all IR procedures are documented in Allscripts
- No call requirements; permanent staff provides overnight and weekend coverage
- Permanent staff covers all holidays — no holiday coverage required for travelers
- No floating outside of IR/Cath Lab; utilization is limited to IR and CT/MRI areas consistent with the RN's IR background
Requirements
- Active NY RN license required
- Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (PALS is mandatory; pediatric experience is not required)
- Minimum 1 year of IR nursing experience required
- Unit Manager or Nurse Manager experience required
- Proficiency in IV starts required
- Experience with Allscripts EMR preferred; used for all IR procedure documentation
- Critical care experience is a plus but not required
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include patient assessment and charting via the Radiology Flowsheet, patient management across all three phases of procedures (pre, intra, and post), IV insertions, CT preps for scheduled patients, and coordination with physicians and mid-level providers regarding plan of care
- Orientation consists of approximately 3 shifts, with the manager evaluating whether additional support is needed
- Royal blue scrubs required; surgical scrubs or disposables may be worn when working in the Cath Lab
- Travelers are asked to provide availability and remain flexible to fill gaps in permanent staff scheduling; block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Excessive call-ins are taken seriously and may result to termination
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
