Description
American Traveler is hiring a RN for a CVICU position requiring 3 years of ICU experience with 1 year in CVICU and an active WI or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in the Critical Care CVICU unit of a Level II Trauma Center hospital with 933 beds
- 30-bed unit caring for post-op cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical patients including CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs, heart transplants, esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy, AAA repair, and carotid endarterectomy
- RN patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 for regular ICU status and 1:3 for mixed status, with tech ratios of 1:8-10
- 12-hour night shift schedule from 1900-0700, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- 1-2 holidays required per contract
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU, sitter duties, and PACU Surge
- Facility follows a fatigue policy limiting staff to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Uses Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors
Requirements
- Active RN license (WI or Compact) required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- CCRN certification preferred
- Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required
- Most recent experience within the last year required
- Competency in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemakers (epicardial, transvenous), chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Experience with CV surgical specialties such as ECMO, CVVH, IABP, and VAD preferred
- EPIC EMR experience required
- RN may draw from invasive lines but is not permitted to perform peripheral sticks
- At least one professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's date of birth and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
- Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible
Additional Information
- Support team includes a charge nurse (rarely with patient assignment), 24/7 HUC, dedicated CVICU intensivist, CT surgeon on call, hospitalist, general intensivist, and ICU-designated respiratory therapist
- Telemetry monitoring performed at bedside/nurses station with no dedicated tele tech
- Phlebotomy team assists with peripheral blood draws
- Orientation includes 1 day with 2-4 hours of new employee orientation with a supervisor/nurse educator, followed by unit placement with a preceptor
- Schedule is on a 6-week cycle, provided 1-2 weeks prior to start
- Up to 7 days of requested time off may be approved
- Scrubs must be any solid professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
- Free parking available with shuttle service for day shift and attached parking structure for night shift
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply as long as experience requirements are met
