Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center in Oconomowoc, WI, requiring 2 years of ICU experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

  • 14-bed ICU on the 2nd floor of a 91-bed Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
  • Diverse patient population including general/medical (sepsis, pneumonia, COVID, COPD, respiratory failure, kidney/liver failure, GI bleeds, DKA), cardiac (CHF, STEMI/NSTEMI, post-cath), trauma (GSW, stabbings, falls), surgical (GYN, GI, GU), and neuro (SDH, TBI, CVA, TIA, syncope) cases
  • No cardiovascular surgeries performed on this unit
  • Patient ratios of 1:1–3; when carrying more than 2 patients, team nursing model is used with an experienced Med/Surg RN
  • 12-hour day shifts, 0700–1900, with 36 hours per week standard
  • Night shift (1900–0700) also available
  • Schedule is built in 6-week increments
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis
  • Travelers are required to float first; may float anywhere in the hospital within or below scope of practice, with a 1:4 ratio when floating to Med/Surg, Tele, or ED Boarding units

Requirements

  • Active WI or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required; TNCC preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in vent/trach management, tube and drain management, chest tubes, and invasive line management (arterial lines, CVP)
  • Ability to read and measure cardiac rhythm strips
  • Experience with medication titration (sedation, pressors, cardiac, pain, and paralytics)
  • Surgical recovery experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Preferred skills: abdominal pressure monitoring, EVDs, CVVH, and IABP
  • At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration
  • Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes a Charge RN who typically takes a patient assignment, 1–2 CNAs per shift, a HUC on day shift, a break buddy system, bedside and centralized telemetry monitoring, RT 24/7, Hospitalists 24/7, Intensivist 24/7, and OT/PT/ST available during the day
  • Orientation consists of 2 days: Day 1 includes credentialing setup and unit training; Day 2 is a full 12-hour shift with a preceptor on the unit
  • 1 holiday required per contract
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved per contract
  • Scrubs must be a solid color and professional in appearance — no graphics, logos, or designs
  • Free parking available in designated employee areas
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
