Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Orthopedics unit, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ortho experience and Epic proficiency, with night shift availability and telemetry skills.
Details
- Acute care hospital ortho unit serving orthopedic, neuro spine, med/surg, and post-surgical patients
- Average daily census of 37 patients across 39 beds
- Patient-to-nurse ratio of 5-6:1, with flexibility up to 7:1 in extreme cases only
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), with options for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Block scheduling available (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
- Every other weekend required; any weekend call-off must be made up on a weekend
- Floating required to other med/surg units within the facility based on census needs
- Epic EMR in use
- IV starts and telemetry monitoring required on this unit
- 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts may be available
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of orthopedic RN experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- IV start and telemetry skills required
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional references from a manager or supervisor within the past 2 years required prior to start (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
- ACLS, charge nurse experience, and Level I trauma experience are preferred
Additional Information
- Unit is fast-paced with emphasis on pain management for ortho and spine patients
- Covid-positive patients are cared for on the unit if not admitted to the ICU
- Weekly orientation; approximately 8–10 hours of pre-start online modules required (completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person classes)
- No RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved, provided it does not fall on a holiday; additional RTO requires facility approval
- No holiday RTO approved; candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Former permanent, PRN, or EP employees of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
- Travel pairs are welcome; each must have their own transportation and be flexible with differing schedules
- First-time travelers are considered with Epic experience
