Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced MS/Tele unit requiring orthopedic experience and telemetry skills, working 12-hour night shifts.
Details
- Hospital MS/Tele unit setting with an average daily census of 37 patients across 39 beds
- Patient population includes orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 5–6:1, flexing up to 7:1 only in extreme circumstances
- Unit is fast-paced with an emphasis on pain management for ortho and spine patients
- COVID-positive patients are cared for on all units (no longer cohorted to a dedicated COVID unit)
- Epic EMR is used on this unit
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15), 3 shifts per week
- Block scheduling options available (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
- 36- or 48-hour work week options available
- Every other weekend is required; any weekend call-off must be made up on a weekend
- Floating to other med/surg units within the facility is required based on census needs
- 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts are possible
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required (may be pending at time of consideration)
- Current certifications required: BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Orthopedic nursing experience is required
- IV insertion and telemetry skills required
- Epic EMR experience required (first-time travelers accepted with Epic experience)
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two manager/supervisor professional references from within the past 2 years required (pending at time of consideration is acceptable)
- Preferred: ACLS, charge nurse experience, and Level I Trauma experience
Additional Information
- Nurses are expected to stay on top of pain management for orthopedic and spine patients
- Weekly orientation is provided; no time off is permitted during the first week of orientation
- Pre-start modules of 8–10 hours are required and must be completed before the start date (completed via online learning, Zoom, webinar, or in-person classes)
- Candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; no holiday RTO will be approved
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; RTO cannot be arranged on-site after booking
- Any previous permanent, PRN, or EP staff employee of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before being eligible to apply as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Local candidates are accepted; candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility may be offered a different rate
- Travel pairs are allowed, provided each traveler has their own transportation and is agreeable to potentially different schedules
