Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU Float position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated academic medical center, requiring Epic proficiency and comfort floating across all PCU and MS units.
Details
- Float position covering all Progressive Care (PCU) and Medical-Surgical (MS) units
- Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric), Magnet-designated acute care teaching hospital affiliated with a medical school
- PCU patient ratio averages 5:1; MS patient ratio averages 6:1, with potential flex up to 7:1
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, meaning travelers may float 2–3 times per shift
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday shift required per 13-week contract
- Epic EMR experience required
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
Requirements
- Active VA state or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Experience in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
- Proficiency in central line care, trach management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, and chest tubes including Emerson/PleurEvac)
- Strong cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management, titrating cardiac drips, and participation in Rapid Response/Code teams
- Experience managing PCA and heparin protocols, administering IV insulin, and caring for patients with endocrine/metabolic conditions
- Background in telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC), including cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac cath settings
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must provide two professional references for consideration
- Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidate must be comfortable working across all PCU and Medical-Surgical units, as floating is a core expectation of this role
- Hospital is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center with a dedicated children's hospital on campus
- All RTO, block scheduling, and special scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application
