Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift L&D position in Houston, TX, requiring AWHONN Intermediate EFM certification and a minimum of 1 year of recent L&D experience.
Details
- Work in a 35-bed L&D unit on the 3rd floor of a large hospital in Houston, TX
- Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 13-week contract
- Patient ratios: 1:1 or 2:1 for laboring patients, 2:1 for APU and PACU
- Procedures performed include vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, PACU recovery, antepartum care/testing, and continuous electronic fetal monitoring
- Equipment used includes Hill-Rom birthing beds, Alaris IV pumps, GE Core Metrics FM, Panda warmers, CADD Solis epidural pumps, and NOVI wireless FM
- EMR systems: Centricity (CPN) and Meditech
- Unit is staffed with 2 charge nurses, 21 RNs, 4 surgical techs, 1 OR aide, and 1 secretary on night shift
Requirements
- Active TX RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NRP (Advanced 9th Edition, American Academy of Pediatrics card)
- AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced EFM certification required (NCCEFM also accepted)
- Minimum 1 year of recent L&D nursing experience required
- All certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start date
- SSN (US only) and DOB required for consideration
- One professional reference required
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Preferred skills include OR circulation for cesarean sections and placement of FSE and IUPC
- Unit follows Pitocin, cervical ripening, magnesium sulfate, hydralazine, and labetalol protocols
- 24/7 ancillary services available on-site, including anesthesia, neonatal, laborist, and hospitalist support
- 13-bed Maternal Assessment Center for triage of pregnant patients
- Facility holds Baby-Friendly Designation
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — no local candidates accepted
- Royal blue scrubs required
- This position is part of the HCA Healthcare system
